I’m trying to blog more this year. But it’s hard. And it’s not even that I don’t have anything to write about–it’s that I just don’t feel qualified to write about those things.
I have a mental checklist of things which I could write about. But I always stop myself before I begin. For instance, is anyone really going to take me seriously if I share my thoughts on why there aren’t more women in computer science? Isn’t it a little presumptuous of me to start talking about the nature of hackathons? After all, I’ve only been to three.
Maybe.
But if I stick to things that I’m a definitive authority on–say, what I had for lunch–this blog is going to get boring.
And besides, I have things to say.
So with that apology, I’ll begin.

You’re good enough to blog. People are interested in your experiences – as a developer, designer, student, and, yeah, woman in tech. Maybe you’re not the authority, but you’re not uninformed, and a lot of the things you’ll blog about (I imagine) don’t have absolute answers.
More importantly, you’ll always be learning. Blogging is a great way to chart that progress and keep track of your trajectory. And to hate yourself later when you realize how stupid you were.
I’m toying with getting back into blogging too, and I have the same hold-ups.
Thanks Catherine.
I really hope you’ll start blogging again, too–not only because I enjoy looking at your art, but because you always bring an interesting voice to conversations.
